The theme of the mystical death is not implying the loss of your Self, but the burial of the separate-self sense in the Divine Presence, where you are in One, spirit in Spirit. Also, the implication is the resurrection of the True Self, where you as a being-unified-with-others already exists. In dying to self, only the first self is dissolved. Yet, there is not oblivion. You are not lifeless, non-existent. Indeed, you do not feel less alive, but more alive. There is no annihilation, no loss. There is only transformation, and discovery. Yet, to fully enter this mystical transformation, or death-resurrection, one consents to detachment from all identities other than identification with the Divine Presence. This does not mean you do not utilize these identities in this world; this means you do that, as needed, but aware that those identities Are not You, but are being used by You for good on this Earth.
